Thanks to Dave Masterman Elis James & John Robins for reading out my handwritten letter on their podcast yesterday. You got my name right but it is the fabulous Dinah who runs Handwritten Letter. Here's your letter amongst others getting posted in the Charles III box. #PostboxSaturday

In 1881 new designs of wall boxes were introduced. The design lasted several decades, so it's quite likely you've seen some like this from the reigns of Victoria, Edward VII or George V. Pictured are the three different sizes: A (large), B (medium) and C (small) #postboxsaturday

The lamp box was the last style of postbox to be produced. Designed after the US Post Office lamp boxes of 1875, the 'semi-circular top' (or 'Hovis') box would last into the reign of George V. This one is in the town of Frome, here pictured on a postcard #PostboxSaturday

In 1901 Edward VII became the UK's King - his first postboxes had a different version of the cipher than those from 1902. The 'open cipher' is a skinnier design than on later Edward VIIs. It can be found across the UK and Ireland including on this box in Dublin #postboxsaturday

Handwritten Letter Keir Starmer Hugh Bonneville Royal Mail Piece of the Past Stamps I finally sent my Gift Aid form to The Letter Box Study Group for I feel that is a good use of that tax. I post a parcel and a card too. I must write another letter to a friend later. The walk to the postbox is great for the mind. I try to choose a different box each time.

Postboxes followed the British wherever they went, so it's no surprise to find an Edward VII box on top of Table Mountain in South Africa. This is a well-kept example of the 'closed' cipher variant (1902-1910) on a Handyside pillar box #postboxsaturday

1905 saw McDowall Steven take over postbox manufacture from Handyside. Their new design inset the aperture into the door and added the square next collection tablets. They ushered in a century of Scottish postbox manufacturing, which only ended in 2014 #postboxsaturday

The design of large wall boxes also updated in 1905 to match the changes on pillar boxes - the door now filled the entire front of the box, and the next collection tablet and wording were added. The full cipher was also added to large and medium wall boxes #postboxsaturday
