Almost 40 years ago, Supernova 1987A exploded onto the scene. Since then, astronomers have searched its remnant (in near-infrared at left) for a central compact object. New data at right (mid-infrared) shows evidence of a neutron star: webbtelescope.pub/49IFMlO

Wow! Gaia Sky is a real-time, 3D, astronomy visualisation software that runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. It is developed in the framework of ESA's Gaia mission to chart about 1 billion stars of our Galaxy. zah.uni-heidelberg.de/gaia/outreach/…

Today Chandra is gazing at galaxies in Leo. Nearby in the sky is NGC 3521, also called the Bubble Galaxy. Fluffy looking galaxies like this one are called 'flocculent spirals.' They lack defined spiral arms and have a soft, woolly appearance, thick with clumps of stars & dust.

Good interview with Justine Triet: “You don’t want to be ridiculous and brutal, and say, “Go screw yourselves, I’m only hiring women.” On my set, though, all the electrical jobs were done by women, and they aren’t, usually. So I was very proud of that.” newyorker.com/culture/the-ne…
