The Law Reform Commission had a very productive meeting with the Transitional Justice Working Group of Ethiopia today at its head office. They were here to learn from our work & experiences emanating from the civil war and the TRC report.

Tripartite discussions & meetings held on 10/08/23 between the Commission, Ministry of Finance & Islamic Development Bank on completing the Mediation Law Project. Successful execution of the project will be a watershed moment for dispute resolution mechanisms in Sierra Leone.

Citizens, Government officials & institutions are rallying in support of the Law Reform Commission's mediation law project. On 14/09/2 we had fruitful deliberations with the Independent Commission of Peace & National Cohesion on the project. They expressed delight and admiration.

We hosted the Deputy Minister of Justice & his team at the Commission today, 31/10/23. We outlined our programmes particularly those that align with the Govt's Big 5 Agenda. He was impressed. He promised to champion our initiatives. Tangible and attainable things were promised.

It was great to meet with the Law Reform Commission Sierra Leone. The Commission’s work align with the Justice Ministry’s priorities for judicial reform.The work of the Commission is very much a part of Barram’s agenda for reform of the justice sector as a legacy of his presidency

Consolidation of the laws i.e. combining all the laws in a single text last happened in Sierra Leone in 1960. Consolidation inter alia gives transparency to the law - a key element of the rule of law. LRC has resolved to undertake this worthy project-released public notice says.

A Law Reform Commission Bill drafted internally was today approved by the Commission. The existing 1994 Act no longer meets the aspirations of the Commission. Its Chairman said: "We should first, in a hurry, fix our inadequate law before helping others ‐ charity begins at home".

Thank you Jack Burne, Political Secretary, of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UK in Sierra Leone) for paying the Commission a visit today. The discussions on a range of issues of common interests were quite insightful. We commit to enhancing the relationship.

Fredrick Ampiah, #ResRep of UNDP in Sierra Leone , has emphasized the critical role of the Law Reform Commission Sierra Leone in ensuring that 🇸🇱’s legal frameworks are modern, equitable,& reflective of current national aspirations. He spoke at a meeting with the Chair of the commission,Yada Williams.

Thanks very much Fredrick Ampiah & UNDP in SL for hosting the LRC yesterday. UNDP shares the vision of the LRC for reforming and modernising our laws to make SL an investment destination with a predictable legal system. This visit should mark the beginning of a great partnership.

Sierra Leone has never had a statute governing partnerships. The LRC recently prepared a Bill which it has now published on its website lawreform.gov.sl. A notice issued today invites ideas to improve it. It is expected the Bill will benefit businesses, the economy etc.

Very productive meeting with the IG of Police yesterday. The LRC's desire to complete the stalled Police Bill resonates with that of the SLP. The Police Act 1964 is clearly out of tune with some extant laws & modern policing patterns. Thanks UNDP in Sierra Leone for supporting this.

LRC is happy to lend its support to Minister Salima Bah in her desire to craft an Innovation & Start-Up Act. We are in awe at the depth of her desire to make a difference. Brilliant to get us involved at the inception. It ensures sanity in the reform process. Thats the way to go.

Almost on a daily basis in the last 7 days, we have had petty thefts at the LRC at night despite the huge armed security presence. Last night, part of our premises was deliberately set ablaze. This is sabotage & clear-cut arson. We hope the culprits are brought to book shortly.
