Following severe storms through the Southeast this week, it's been hard not to notice some large gaps in radar coverage of the area. Overlaying demographic data with radar coverage data, it's hard not to notice how the areas most underserved by NEXRAD are also majority-Black.

Ten weather and climate myths: 1) Generally speaking, there is no "rain bubble" or artificial barrier around your town preventing storms from impacting you. We are in a drought, so rain is hard to come by, but there is also some inherent randomness to storms in some environments.

A major severe weather outbreak is expected today from the Midwest to the Mid-South. The greatest risk for strong, long-track (potentially violent) tornadoes exists across SE IA, western IL & far northeast MO as well as portions of eastern AR, northern MS, & southwest TN.
