Happy #WomensHistoryMonth! The 1st women at La Salle University arrived in 1963 with the Sisters' Science Institute. In 1967 women were admitted to the Evening Division, in 1969 students from Germantown Hospital + Chestnut Hill College were able to take classes, and in 1970 LSU went fully coed.
For this month's #ArchivesHashtagParty we're showing off a poster from when Odetta and Leon Bibb, two famous folk singers and Civil Rights activists of the 1950s and 1960s, visited La Salle University in 1963. #ArchivesMusic
Dr. Minna Weinstein was hired in 1967 as one of the first two female professors La Salle University. Known as Mickey, she became the first female full professor in 1974. She also helped establish a women’s center on campus and created a course on women’s history. #WomensHistoryMonth
Happy #InternationalWomensDay! Today we're highlighting Dr. Kathryn Fitzgerald, '68, the 1st woman to graduate from La Salle University. A member of The Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, she transferred to La Salle in 1967 when the Evening Division went co-ed #WomensHistoryMonth
Dr. Robin L. Smith, 1983 La Salle University alum, briefly taught gymnastics and entered seminary before earning her PhD in counseling psychology. She went on to be the on-air therapist for The Oprah Winfrey Show and became a well-known relationship expert. #WomensHistoryMonth
Dr. Barbara Millard joined La Salle University in 1972 and co-founded Building Blocks Child Development Center that year. She was the 1st woman to be Faculty Senate President, and she was the first woman and non-Brother to be Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. #WomensHistoryMonth
Happy Charter Day, and happy 160th birthday La Salle University! On March 20, 1863 La Salle College received its charter from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The college opened at St. Michael's Parish at 2nd and Jefferson.

Dr. Diane Moyer, ’80, was on the basketball, softball, diving, + field hockey teams La Salle University. After missing the '80 Olympics, she competed in '84, winning bronze with the U.S. field hockey team. She later earned her PhD + has been a professor since 1996. #WomensHistoryMonth
