A song in church today had the line β€œI cried to the Lord and he answered my cry” and that’s why I trust him and I have all kinds of problems with that theology.

This is the genetic or poisoning the well fallacy. Reidls gender confusion does not in itself mean their economic opinions are invalid. I don’t say this to defend the gender confusion but to judge the fallacious conclusion.

The dysfunctional church that enables abuse can have the energy of β€œIt’s not that we don’t believe you, it’s just that we really don’t care.” This can be more devastating than the abuse itself.

The system was not designed for people to change. So when you did it increased their anxiety. You were viewed with suspicion. Only those who were considered β€œnever one of us” would change. So in fear you were driven out. The story of the scapegoat in the dysfunctional church

Unity in church is vital. But unity in truth and love. Unity for its own sake, prepared to sacrifice truth and love is a form of totalitarianism. And many churches operate this way.
