This rate is so insulting I can’t

Once again, I was saying the rate that the Independent paid me was a bad rate. I was not comparing it to an indie magazine. The £65 rate is just another bad rate! And today is just another bad day to be a freelance writer! Or an editor at a publication without sufficient funding!

A conversation I would like to see is how an outlet who (apart from great coverage) have the best IG in the game could get the funding & industry support to grow even bigger. They already reach a lot of people far bigger outlets miss. I’m sure they’d love to pay people more.

Lara Olszowska I don’t think what you said was in any way controversial Lara. £65 is a low rate. But sometimes Indie publishers pay low rates. If other writers do not agree that a rate of £65 is low - if not insulting - they are free to work for the outlet. I don’t see the problem 🤷🏻‍♂️
