“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Today I'm reflecting on Dr. King’s words as we honor his legacy #SheriffV #mlkday #mlkday2020

A day of celebration during the annual Kindom Day Parade—On this #MLKDay, we honor a man that said “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”..Words that are echoed in the work the men & women of the LAPD strive to live by as they keep LA safe

You know it’s going to be a good dance battle when the first move out of the gate is the robot... Who won? It’s hard for us to be impartial, so we’ll just say those who saw it in person at today’s #MLKDay Parade

One of my favorite LAPD ceremonies. Today we welcomed the next generation of LAPD leadership. My ask: Lead with purpose, compassion, and work every day to forge new partnerships in every corner of our Department and city.

Today was an exciting day for our Department, and for our city as we officially launched our newest Community Safety Partnership (CSP) in San Fernando Gardens. The CSP program has been a model of shared success since its inception—Proud to bring this program to the valley.

Last night was a tragically violent night in Los Angeles. Together, we must confront this challenge and vehemently reject this trend—we will not let those that wish to tear at the fabric of our city succeed.

Assistant Chief Beatrice Girmala joined the LAPD in 1985 and is the highest ranking female officer in the LAPD, serving as the Director of Office of Operations. She oversees all LAPD patrol resources and is the first female to hold that prestigious position. #WomensHistoryMonth

The LAPD & Building Blue Bridges have one common goal...uniting law enforcement & students to reestablish trust and rebuild positive relationships. Through organic & authentic participation, they've been able to address perceptions of bias and begin the process of moving forward.
