Part 1: Honouring an amazing man on the 80th Anniversary of VE Day: Jim Teesdale who was LC's mum's Grandad. He volunteered in WW2, despite having a wife and two young daughters and a reserved occupation as a civil engineer. Officer in the army. Captured in Crete.

Part 2: Missing presumed dead for a while. Jim endured 4 & a half years in a Prisoner of War camp in Eichstätt, Germany. While he was there, he learnt German, Welsh & completed engineering exams despite the hardship & danger. Red Cross parcels and letters from home kept him alive

Part 3: Finally released but during a march Jim &his comrades were accidentally fired on by "friendly" fire & some men died. Repatriated on VE Day & later reunited with his family including my mum who didn't get to know him til the age of 5. A few weeks later he was back in work.

Part 4: He went to the Nürnberg Trials. The photo shows him by the War Memorial by Pembroke Castle where his name was accidentally put on and you can still see where it was removed. He was affected by his war time experiences for the rest of his life.

Part 5: LC's mum remembers him as Mortimer Mouse for loving cheese, munching polos in church and always having sugar on his ice cream! A great man. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Languages Cat's French Dog Idiom Of The Day is in memory of her Cousin Jazz who sadly passed away yesterday. Coiffé/e à la chien - to have a fringe. Repose en paix, Jazzy, you were so loved and will be so missed. Run free over the Rainbow Bridge.

Languages Cat's Mum was paid a huge compliment by a lovely student she has taught German to for the last 5 years: "I wish I had a Sharon for all my subjects!"

Languages Cat's French Tennis Idiom Of The Day in honour of Wimbledon: "se prendre une bicyclette" (to get a bicycle) = This idiom means to lose a match 6-0, 6-0. The zeros in the score resemble the wheels of a bicycle. (In English we would say to get double bageled).
