Was there a welcoming committee? #OnThisDay in 1836 Brunel visited Langport to survey the potential for a new Bow Bridge. He didn't stay, but he did recommend the construction of a bridge with wider arches. Opened in 1841, we're still using it today

Digby Denham, Langport baker's son who became Premier of Queensland, visited his home town #OnThisDay in 1914. The town "had rather gone back", he said, but the Grammar School "had very markedly improved". Now this is reversed, the school is closed and the town is thriving!

Langport saw a death as well as a birth #OnThisDay. In 1851 Kelways Nursery was founded, but sadly in 1937 the day also saw the last issue of the local paper, the Langport & Somerton Herald. A tragic loss for the community, not to mention for local historians!
