Eye surgeon Tom Poole performed the first NHS transplant in England using an artificial cornea. Before the op, patient Cecil Farley, 91, had no vision in his right eye but it’s now “getting clearer week by week. And I can still see my wife of 63 years.” fhft.nhs.uk/news/frimley-h…

My Election Day Monologue on Times Radio. In praise of British democracy. It’s election day in the United Kingdom, a seminal event we too often take for granted. We also do it in a very British way.  There will be no armed guards at the polling stations. No intimidating mobs.

For the last 7 years 3 months I have had the privilege of being the CEO The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. Feels strange to leave today, on my 30th anniversary of working in the NHS. Lots of memories. Thanks to all colleagues I have worked with over the last 7 years. Will look on with pride from afar.

This morning the Education team collected a VIP award from the Chief Exec for the success implementation of National PEWS. We are all really proud of what we have achieved, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of a much wider team. Jill Thistlethwaite
