1/2) Fantastic article today in the Los Angeles Times by Gabrielle LaMarr LeMee discussing our recent PNAS study showing that people are averse to guns in their neighborhoods.

Doctors say children have been deliberately targeted by Israeli snipers in Gaza; they reported treating 'a steady stream of children, elderly people and others who were clearly not combatants with single bullet wounds to the head or chest.'

Forget election night. Definitive results might take days, or weeks, in very close races.

The one-day strike is over.

Strikers have had the work accounts restored. But there’s still two critical things YOU can do in support as we face a pivotal week ahead.

NYT and WaPo did not shut off Slack or email access during their respective one-day strikes, per L.A. Times Guild 🦅

Again. THIS is what management is doing instead of negotiating these layoffs in good faith—not to mention our whole contract. Guild members haven’t had raises since 2021.

just fyi that Los Angeles Times mgmt has so far chosen to:

- dock pay for those of us participating in today's walkout
-block our access to Slack
-keep secret how many layoffs in total are planned

This is unusual. It did not happen during similar walk-outs by employees of The New York Times and The Washington Post. Some Los Angeles Times journalists have told me that this has made coordinating coverage for tomorrow difficult.
