It is unconscionable that we charge prisoners copays for medical care. New research from Cambridge Health Justice Lab led by Emily Lopez finds that many incarcerated individuals are more likely to go without any medical care in prisons that impose copays.

Emily Lupez & Cambridge Health Justice Lab newly show that 90% of state prison residents were in facilities requiring co-payments for a medical visit. Most co-pays exceeded 1 week’s prison wage. And 42% of respondents in severe psychological distress had not received mental health treatment.

Our new study just up in JGIM Journal of General Internal Medicine looks at RSV vaccine uptake in MA towns — finding *lower* uptake in communities with *higher* pulmonary risk (e.g. COPD prevalence), & higher uptake in wealthier towns.
