New Zuck post, what a difference a few years makes: Today: "We'll need to be rigorous about mitigating these risks and careful about what we choose to open source." 2024: "Meta is committed to open source AI... and therefore a platform that will be around for the long term."

📝 olmOCR v0.2.1 has arrived with new models! Our open‑source OCR engine now reads tougher docs with greater precision—and it’s still 100 % open. 👇

I just released an essay series on a topic I've been thinking about, on and off, for a few years: What does AI progress mean for medical progress? Many people working on AI dream it will help cure cancer and prevent disease. I wanted to create a more specific roadmap:

America needs to take open models more seriously. This summer the early lead in open model adoption of the US via Llama has been overtaken by Chinese models. With The American Truly Open Models (ATOM) Project we're looking to build support and express the urgency of this issue.

🤖✨ What if models that take action in the physical world could think through your instructions? Meet MolmoAct, our new fully open Action Reasoning Model (ARM) that does just that. 🧵

If we want to build good open models we need to have well-funded labs dedicated to it. It's easy to get excited about community projects/ decentralized training but those aren't ready to make good models. Those are great for research ONTOP of good models.

With fresh support of $75M from U.S. National Science Foundation and $77M from @NVIDIA, we’re set to scale our open model ecosystem, bolster the infrastructure behind it, and fast‑track reproducible AI research to unlock the next wave of scientific discovery. 💡

LLMs power research, decision‑making, and exploration—but most benchmarks don’t test how well they stitch together evidence across dozens (or hundreds) of sources. Meet MoNaCo, our new eval for question-answering cross‑source reasoning. 👇
