Back to back frontal boundaries will generate a couple rounds of showers and thunderstorms for the Ohio Valley -- especially across the southern and eastern portions. Rain could be heavy in spots, amounting to 1-3" in southern Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

A check of rainfall amounts since Tuesday. More showers & storms is in the offing later today. Year-to-date precip shows nearly a dozen sites > 50", which is roughly the state average for an entire year. For many, however, a good portion of that precip fell between Jan-June.#kywx

🧵Rainfall Recap: A few sites picked up some badly-needed rainfall over the weekend. The most significant precipitation fell in parts of north-central KY, with Meade County near Brandenburg receiving 0.84"...

Our Logan County site in the south-central part of the state also saw > half-inch. However, most places received little or nothing. We're now halfway through September, and a number of stations in the western region have seen < .10" for the month so far...

Some sites in this region have gone over 50 days since measuring a rainfall of > .25". Our Fulton County site has gone nearly TWO MONTHS without seeing that much precip in one calendar day! #drought #kywx

The next several days look mainly dry for the Commonwealth. Some rainfall looks possible this weekend, although it likely won't be enough to put a real dent in the ongoing #drought. #kywx

NEW: Hello, Powell County!! Our 84th site in our 79th county is now officially online, measuring and collecting various weather data. This station is located one mile west of the Stanton community.

A webcam has also been mounted onto the site’s tower. Imagery from it will be available soon on our website as well as via our app for iOS and Android. We’ve now added FOUR new stations in 2025, and the year (and the growth) is not over yet!! Stay tuned. #kywx

#Drought persistence is expected across much of the Midwest through the end of this year. Further development likely as well.
