This week at the hive, Miss Willett and Mr Gatrell checked, removed further unsealed queen cells and checked the sealed ones. They kept one sealed queen cell and moved another to our poly nuk to raise as a back up queen. Hopefully soon we will have a queen again!

Today Bury CE Primary apiary we were relieved to find eggs and larvae proving that our queen has successfully mated and is doing well! We have gently marked and clipped her as a swarm control measure, this doesn't hurt her. Looking to extract honey soon #beekeepinginschool #sdnpa

This morning marked our first ever go using our own honey extractor. The children have been involved in the whole process: from checking on the hive; collecting the frames; removing the wax cappings; and finally to extraction. Here is our first extractor - I think he was pleased!
