At my seminar this week, someone asked about the role of in the yt women in my org given the mess I went through. Here’s the answer. Many of them were as destructive as the patriarchy. They talked mess about me being my back. Their words and actions got back to me. 1/

Look out for leaders who only respond to positive news and remain silent when it’s time for difficult conversations. #StopPlayingDiversity

Shoutout to WRDS prof Alexis McGee (accoutremama) who'll be speaking today as part of a day-three roundtable at the #TracingTheStream symposium on the legacy of Black feminist icon Jacqueline Jones Royster!

@rebeccawingo I sincerely hope everyone reading this thread stops before trying this. Consult Indigenous folk. Indigenous folk already have too much to deal with regarding residential schools and children. Themselves. Their relatives. It's very painful. Not academic.

This is why Kristen R. Moore and I engage in work exploring relationships between white women and Black women. Sisterhood isn’t automatically sisterhood when it comes to race. 1/ #StaceyAbrams #MidtermElections2022 #Midterms2022 #stopplayingdiversity

To those of you declaring yourself allies, Stop gawking as oppression happens. Stop giving up so quickly when oppressors harass new people. Stop hiding behind kindness & performative diversity. Stop putting people you hire in the middle of mess. Protect those you say you value.

What shocks me about academics is how silent they are. Academia is great at theory (i.e., I believe in equity) but not always in practice (i.e., I'm going to stand up for equity). If you need someone to have your back, you might be in trouble. The courage isn't always there.

Passive suicidal ideation is so common in trauma survivors that many don't bother to even mention it when they're being assessed-- it's just always there. It becomes like the barely noticeable background music in a TV show.

As Election Chair for @sigdoc officially submitted the slate for those nominated and agreed to run for 2023. We have such a wonderful, energetic group of people willing to step up and lead. I am inspired and excited to see the vibrancy in this group and where they take us!

@sigdoc Can't but help thank @LizaPotts for her leadership of resurrecting and SIGDOC and putting it on the path it is today and making me know it was the org I felt connected too.

And special shout out to @dprichards who has done an incredible job as Chair during the tumultuous past few years of pandemic-ness. Steady hand steering the ship.

While it's personally dispiriting to see your work targeted in bad faith, what's more distressing to me is that the lives of women of color I've written about are being diminished and erased in a political moment in which we need their stories most.
