Our colleague Dr. Robert Mukiibi showing strong proof that he's about to solve the VNN problem in seabass with a candidate gene detected in a major QTL with expression results and soon gene editing to back it all up! Go Dr Mukiibi 💪🐟

Clémence Fraslin from The Roslin Institute reveals the loci in Atlantic Salmon associated with resistance to 2 sea lice species European Aquaculture Society (EAS). Her impressive dataset of 3 year classes and 1000s of fish uncovered few common QTL, suggesting a polygenic basis to sea lice resistance! 🐟🧬

Saving the best for last, the final talk of the day in the selective breeding session of European Aquaculture Society (EAS) was presented by Christina Kriaridou from The Roslin Institute. She demonstrated the utility of Bayesian statistics for modeling disease susceptibility traits in turbot! 🐟🧬

Sterility in aquaculture salmon can be achieved through triploidy, albeit with some fitness costs. @KleppeLene reveals a more elegant way to sterility: targeting specific genes using a variety of techniques from gene editing to RNA vaccines. ICISB Conference #icisb2024 🐟🧬

Early maturation usually = less lifetime growth in Atlantic Salmon But anna.wargelius shows how this significant 💸 problem for the aquaculture industry could be solved by manipulating the gene fshr to limit early maturation in male Atlantic Salmon! ICISB Conference #icisb2024

📢Finally it is out!😁 X-ray feed intake in Atlantic salmon 🐟🍣 is heritable 🧬 and ranks families very well 🎯. Solid collaboration with Ashie from Mowi, Nofima in NewTechAqua 🐟🇪🇺 & AquaIMPACT projects👉sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
