The paper I did with anders holm and Mads Meier Jæger on the signalling effects of GPA has hit the ESR. MZ twin diffs suggest that students, especially low-SES ones base educational decisions in part on grades, regardless of underlying ability.

Articles in high-impact journals are highly cited. But why? Are they somehow "better"? Or is it just because they are published in a high-impact journal? The causality is difficult to establish, but in my latest preprint I find: it's both. arxiv.org/abs/1912.08648 (1/8)

My op-ed at FT: Moneyball was never about data analytics as many assumed, but about taking advantage of other's misattribution of luck. ft.com/content/5f0afa…

This was the last week for my network epistemology class (sad emoji). We focused on models of citation networks, the network formed by how papers cite other papers. This is an enormous literature, so we focused on one question: why might citations fail to track quality?

We are proud to announce that IAS researcher Selcan is scheduled to present on this very impressive @ASANews computational sociology panel. Although #ASA2020 will not meet in #SanFrancisco, social science goes on!
