I think we’ve tried every possible program variable. I have realized there are two “things” that drive progress. Genetics and consistency. People that are consistent with training, nutrition etc make progress. People with great genetics get away with less of both. The end.

Delivering harsh criticism without a clear teaching objective can destroy moral and build resentment between coach & athlete. To be constructive, criticism should be directed to the actions, not the person. And athletes should focus on what the coach says, not how he says it!
