Out next month and 15 years in the making, Srinath Raghavan's latest sharply examines the paradoxes and high drama of Indira Gandhi’s years in power. [And it's not a bad time at all to be paying attention to the precarious relationship between authoritarianism and leadership.]

Every year UPSC exam brings a heartwarming story to the forefront. This is Birdev. A always smiling and positive boy from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He came to know about his UPSC result while he was shepherding the family sheep. The family gathered around for his felicitation

I freaking HATE the discourse around “useless degrees” that I’ve been seeing all day. Our society needs historians, philosophers, and English majors. Frankly, their decline is a huge reason our society lacks understanding of pol issues + the ability to scrutinize information

Am truly shocked by the marginal, virtually non coverage of the Pahalgam Terror attack in the American media , ignorance, insularity and self obsession-hence even tougher to take huffy puffy op-eds on India seriously. They just don’t get us.

Very excited that Karnataka will soon have 6599 more village libraries. In addition to over 5800 rural libraries that are already functioning. Rural public libraries are community learning spaces for knowledge & interaction. #socialinfrastructure #publiclibrariesforall

About 35 years ago, the BMC decided that offering dustbins with a cutesy animal design was the route to getting citizens to actually use them. Every creature was rejected except for the penguin. Evidently, it does not appear in Indian mythology and would not offend anyone. 1/n
