Today, Mikita Zalatarou turns 21—in prison. He was just 16 when he was arrested for standing up for freedom in Belarus. He spent his teenage years behind bars, beaten and denied medical care. Mikita, you are not forgotten. All political prisoners must be released.

#Belarus Former political prisoner Hanna Kandratsenka has died at 39. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in prison but was not released early despite her illness. Hanna served her full sentence for comments, was freed in June 2024 & passed away a few months later. So tragic.

Excellent column arguing for a Canadian foreign human intelligence service - I would only add that Canada would be wise to diversify and deepen its intelligence partnerships with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania too. Mr Chase makes a serious point. A massive investment in the higher education sector by Canada could be a game changer. The EU has signalled such a move, but Canada would be a logical place to make a difference.

The dismantling of Soviet/Russian imperialism that never happened after the fall of the USSR is a requirement for lasting peace, and Russia's total defeat in Ukraine is the essential first step.

Here the President of the United States admits, with unwonted honesty, that he is doing everything he can to prop up & perpetuate Russian fascism & Moscow’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Utterly reprehensible.

Western democracies have paid more for Russian oil and gas than they’ve provided in aid to Ukraine. Canada needs to step up—developing our energy export capacity can help cut off the Kremlin’s war funding and support our allies. bbc.com/news/articles/…
