Canadians weren't super optimistic that the Maple Leafs would end their drought any time soon. There's always next year I guess.

I asked partisans why they might encourage or discourage young people to pursue careers in politics as part of my exploration into the challenges facing the political staffing environment in Canada. substack-proxy.glitch.me/articles/north…

I talked to Samriddha Chaudhury about his experience writing for two Prime Ministers, his advice on how to grow in a staffer role and how the best inspiration for writing political messages might be listening to real Canadians outside of the political bubble substack-proxy.glitch.me/articles/north…

Interesting to see this new branding of what the role of PM is. The image of Trudeau as PM was always more focused on outside of office engagement with Canadians, while Carney is highlighting the roll up the sleeves and work side of the job.

I'm not overly upset at there only being one mandate letter in general, but if you're going to say AI will find efficiencies in government, you really should explain the vision there or canadians will fill in the blanks with their fears about AI #cdnpoli

I had an in-depth conversation this week with Ashley Fearnall-Soetaert about the lessons the Liberal government learned about Human Resources and the radical transformation that still needs to occur to create a staffing environment that supports people. substack-proxy.glitch.me/articles/north…

There are two types of staffers: staffers who say "there's no manual for how to do these jobs" and staffers who have read Jennifer Lees-Marshment's book. We talked about her pioneering research that every manager should be reading. #cdnpoli substack-proxy.glitch.me/articles/north…

Pierre Poilievre wants to talk about symbolism so let's do that. The choice to display a Conservative blue flag instead of the Canadian flag is a pretty clear symbol that he puts party before country. It has the wrong proportions for the Canadian flag too

So we're just treating this like it's not a news story? Barely any press coverage of the President endorsing a statement that his political rival was executed and replaced by a clone. How did we get here?

I learned a lot talking to Alex Wellstead about his experience speaking to journalists on behalf of the Prime Minister and other Cabinet Ministers, including his advice on how to build authentic, respectful relationships with media: substack-proxy.glitch.me/articles/north…

Throwback to when I asked Liberal leadership voters who they would rather have in charge of the US between Donald Trump and Elon Musk and there was a perfectly even split:

Full steam ahead on A.I. with no concrete plans to regulate feels like a very risky approach for such a double-edged innovation. We can't trust the US to put forward guardrails to protect us on this stuff, and we shouldn't go all in on AI if we have no way to mitigate the risks
