Then & Now The older photograph was taken in 1902 of the shop at 15 Calvert Avenue, Shoreditch, now called Leila's Shop. The photograph taken in 2010, was recreated 108 years later with the children from year 2 at Virginia Primary School.

Then & Now: Knightsbridge, c 1902. Harvey Nichols then had some competition, between Seville St and William St was another large draper’s store, Woolland Brothers. Harvey Nichols can just be seen on the right. The plot is now occupied by Park Tower

What my granny born 1890 would call 'a sweet stuff shop' - what a shame a spray has never been invented recapturing the sweet smell of entering such an establishment. Most sweet shops had a set of scales like these, no longer needed, a memory lost in time!

Back in the days when you could quench your thirst with a can of special brew on the tubes. Not sure the copper was drinking legally, (of course not) but there was no social media to split on him! Happy Times in Balham, South West London.

TowerBridge Rd, Grange Rd, Bermondsey, toilets are left derelict in the old picture, now the Bermondsey Art Club, which I understand is an expensive restaurant. The building with downstairs lights on was my old school, Bacon School for boys now an osteopath.

Lost Pub: The Black Horse, Roman Road, Peary Place, East London, had a history dating back to at least 1869. The pub was rebuilt in 1883 by architects Hammack & Lambert. It was a Truman's pub until 1985 when it was sold, eventually closing in 1995.

All Hallows by the Tower is said to have the oldest surviving Saxon Arch in the City, from the foundation of the church of the 7th century. The arch was revealed for the first time in a 1940 German air raid when a bomb destroyed part of the medieval church.

Chater-Lea, a British bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer with a factory at 74-84 Banner Street, EC1. Now flats with a ghost sign above the entrance. Founded in 1890 by William Chater-Lea to produce bicycle frames and later expanding into cars & motorcycles.

The clock at 5 Southampton Street, Covent Garden, is known for its ornate Baroque design, with the letters "GEORGE NEWNES" which originally replaced the hour numerals. The building was once the headquarters of the British Computer Society.
