I have a book on this sobering list of #bannedbooks but what it doesn't show is "secret censorship" which results in authors not being invited, or in my case, having invitations reecinded out of fear of protests. harpersbazaar.com/culture/a45012…

NCTE 2023 literacy conference in Columbus offered critical insights. Jen Toney, Laura Nych, Angelica Serrano and Juana Martinez-Neal were my thoughtful co-presenters. "Empathy is the fuel of democracy" is a central thought for our on-going work with elem. learners.

To mark MLK's 95th birthday, New Castle's NAACP offered a program at the Sankey Youth Center. Words of inspiration were offered by Japraunika Wright. LCCAP, Oneness and the NC Library coordinated the distribution of 100 free children's books to attendees. We are moving forward!

Getting excited about the Tucson Festival of Books, March 9 & 10. I moderate a panel with authors Veera Hiranandani, Michelle Mohrweis and Sara Shepard. Come to Tucson and consider how middle school students manage anxiety and trauma.

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." Winnie the Pooh. Moving back west to our families and old friends is both joy-filled and complicated. We miss many dear friends from New Wilmington. Bryce already came for a long weekend!
