“Hydro firms say they’ve been left high and dry on rates,” says today’s The Sunday Times Scotland. “Business rates for some small hydro firms are up to four times higher than for other equivalent-sized #renewables businesses.” ScotGov could resolve this injustice - if Ministers so chose.

Me, as chair of Open Seas, in today's The Herald: “#Waitrose is misleading its customers - claiming to be ethical but sourcing #DredgedScallops from a fishery that deploys the most damaging legal method of fishing in the UK.” #EndSeafoodGreenwash heraldscotland.com/politics/19920…

We think Waitrose supermarket is greenwashing. Buying scallops that are caught using methods that damage marine ecosystems is not sustainable or responsible #EndSeafoodGreenwash openseas.org.uk/end-seafood-gr…

It's hard to exaggerate how truly awful this is. That MSC in the UK thinks it can certify inshore #dredgedscallops is shocking - a betrayal of its very purpose. At Open Seas we shall work tirelessly to expose and end #MSC's hypocrisy. #InshoreLimit #CreateJobs #BringBackTheFish

As @unfccc, we will be holding people to account – be they Presidents, Prime Ministers or CEOs. Our policies, our businesses, our infrastructure, our actions, must all align with the #ParisAgreement. My signal of change today at the opening of #COP27.

Within about five minutes of exploring temperate rainforests on the Ardtornish Estate yesterday I was astonished to find Yellow Speckled-Belly lichen (Pseudocyphellaria citrina) - an incredibly rare lichen found in only one site in England, but clearly more common in Scotland!:)

Interested in the #Hebrides, botany, or scientific fraud? You’ll hear about all three if you tune to #BBC Radio 4 at 1.45 today, or later on catch-up, as a new series begins with the tale of my father John Raven’s late-1940s exposure of fraudulent plant finds on the Isle of Rum.

Alistair Darling led this country through extraordinarily difficult economic times and was a political giant respected across parties. Scotland is proud to call him a son. Sending so much love to his family who have lost him too soon.

I’m sadder than words can say. Alistair Darling was a great man, but never expected to be treated as one. A man who always felt the weight of the huge decisions that public service involves, but was still able to take them - even in the darkest of economic times

So so sad to hear Alistair Darling has died. A lovely man who always put others before himself. A team player. He did a succession of Cabinet jobs from start to finish of the New Labour era and did every one of them well. Last time I saw him not that long ago he seemed fit and1/2

I am deeply saddened by the death of Alistair Darling. I, like many relied on his wisdom, calmness in a crisis and his humour. I send my deepest condolences to his loving wife Maggie and their children Calum and Anna. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I am beyond saddened to learn of the passing of Alistair Darling, a colleague, a friend and a role model of decency & dedicated public service. My heart goes out to Maggie, Calum & Ann. Scotland has lost one of its finest sons.

Incredibly sad news about Alistair Darling. One of the kindest, most dedicated, steadiest people, deeply serious, driven by public service & Labour values, & that wonderful dry sense of humour In unprecedented financial crisis when so much at risk, his calm judgement was vital/1

Such sad, sad news about the passing of Alistair Darling. He was so solid and decent and honourable. Working with him through Better Together was one of the most professionally rewarding periods of my life. He gave no small amount of service to this country.
