Saving SDG4.1.1a Great stuff from Center for Global Development here. And shame on the global education architecture for letting turf wars (yes they really do exist and yes they really are ridiculous) get in the way of children's learning. Ht James Earl Kiawoin

I'm optimistic that one day soon GiveWell will see the light on the case for education investments!👇This thorough piece makes a strong case. Education interventions = as cost-effective as the top Givewell charities. Highly recommend a read.

So happy to see this paper finally published in a great journal. I have lots of bittersweet experience with this paper.

We wrote the 1st draft in 2016, and since then, it has been rejected well over 10 times. So happy that I can finally move on from it.

Yes this! The paper is amazing - but there is also part of me thinking 'funny how much more interested people are in this now that some white men are explaining it with a hefty dose of p values...'

2) The best response to this paper would be for good souls to step up their support of groups under attack

That includes calling out people for hateful speech they use in your presence

It will be uncomfortable

Do it

I’ve heard that whenever I tweet about etc, it prompts numerous threads on EJMR full of hateful comments about me and women in economics.

If I understand the new paper correctly, all that extra content helped identify toxic colleagues. That’s pretty satisfying! 🥳

Corruption/cheating in exams is the norm & should assumed unless proven otherwise - to quote Rudolph Ampofo (@GlobalEdTechHub): human beings have shown time and time again that they will find ways to 'hack' the system

Very interesting points from Noam Angrist on scaling - he finds that getting buy-in from the top is critical but you can't then rely on 'trickle down' - need to also work at classroom level to create excitement about teaching approach so teachers start demanding better support
