Prof. Samuel told Australian Senate that his views on the law reform changes announced yesterday ('take a chill pill') are based on convos w Minister, MO and Dept. Unclear whether he's seen draft Bill, Standards or other consultation documents. thenightly.com.au/politics/natur…

So now Prof. Samuel tells us:

“To the conservationists in Australia, I would say just sit and wait, take a chill pill.”

Prof. Samuel's statement is equal parts insulting, naive, and laughable.

Australian Labor promised to 'end the neglect' and help turn the tide on species extinctions and ecosystem collapse.

That commitment hasn't been honoured.

I grew up next to Whistlepipe Gully in Perth hills, Western Australia. Today I went to look at trees I’d walked under with my grandma when I was little, that I was looking forward to showing my baby, and they’re dead 😢 Experts are warning of “forest collapse” across southern WA

You cannot make this up: the NT chief minister might want to use the hellhole that is youth prison to cage women instead of children. abc.net.au/news/2024-04-1…

As Australia’s list of animals and plants threatened with extinction grows and climate change threatens the nation’s forests and reefs, new environmental reforms have been announced by the Albanese government.

The reaction has been mixed.

This is what Glencore thinks the Safeguard Mechanism means for its huge Hunter Valley Operations coal mine expansion: emissions are highest 20 years after the Safeguard reforms, more than double they are now, thanks to fugitive methane releases of over a million tonnes a year

Australian governments spend $11 billion per year subsidising fossil fuels. There was no complaint from Conservatives when Albo gave $1.5 billion of our money to the Middle Arm gas project… they dont mind if we pick losers, but picking winners is ‘new economics’

In a letter published by the Middle Arm Senate Inquiry, CDU’s vice-chancellor asked the committee not to publish a joint submission by two academics that criticised the university’s support for the gas and industrial development.

I'm on Larrakia Country in Garramilla Darwin this week for hearings into Labor's Middle Arm gas and petrochemical hub, which doesn't have free prior and informed consent of the Larrakia people.

The community roundtable is starting now. Listen live here: aph.gov.au/News_and_Event…

It shouldn’t take a Senate Inquiry for the NT Govt to admit what we already know.

Middle Arm is a $1.5 billion taxpayer funded gas and petrochemical hub that will lock in fossil fuel extraction for 50 years and damage our health, harbour and climate.

Doctors, nurses & researchers have warned about dangers of processing fracked gas at Middle Arm - 2.5km from Darwin suburbs.

NT Chief Minister won’t rule out petrochemical processing at the site 🤯 which we know would very likely cause a cancer cluster.

BREAKING - An explosive new report reveals the NT is home to Australia’s weakest lobbying rules and it has little protection against undue influence on government.

It exposes how this was a major factor in government support for the Middle Arm precinct.
