What does "Affordable Housing" mean to you? Really this can mean a lot of things...although from a developer's standpoint we generally consider this to be housing that is rent restricted to varying levels of a region's Area Median Income (AMI).

Affordable housing (rent restricted housing) is different from market rate housing. Market Rate housing is really just housing where the price or monthly rent is dictated by market demand and the neighborhood demographics.

There is also Mixed Income housing where a project would have both types of these units in a single community. You can't necessarily tell that a community is market, mixed, or affordable from just the naked eye.
