Being a grad student, living in manhattan with no smartphone was indeed awesome. No money and no destination usually but endless discovery

Circe - every romcom having hand drawn block letters on movie poster - every tech company ad having a ukulele in the background - mustache and bacon on everything - people using vintage cameras and buying vinyl records

Circe Damn, Gen z really went from dragging us & calling us old to now romanticizing our old asses. Honestly, I get it. I’m so saddened for the world they get to see they will inherit. It’s heavily sabotaged. :/

another point to the mini end of history theory of the 2010s; just as people romanticize the 90s as an era of unbridled optimism for the future, people have begun to do so for the 2010s as well

I get why this is a thing bc the vibe during this time was absolutely unmatched, miss it all the time. Cafes were still cozy, nightlife was fun and mostly wholesome, going to the mall to hang out and shop with ur friends was a great time, social media and dating apps hadn’t taken

I mean it did kind of rule but that’s mostly bc being in your 20s usually feels good lol. You can still be in your 20s guys!! Go out to a show wearing unwise footwear before the chronic SI joint pain and migraine disorder kick in!!!!

watching this clip really put into perspective what it must have been like for a gen Xer to watch how people in the 2010's depicted the 80's

I graduated from college in 2012 & partied so HARD. I stayed inside a club that year & was OUTSIDE, it was actually such a fun year.

YIMBYLAND You can just do things and have fun! But also, millennials in 2012 were like the last helicopter out of Saigon in terms of having affordable [enough] housing with decent amenities in most cities. Then demand for this lifestyle outpaced supply in most areas. Let's fix this!

jed Wilterson Witzky da Silva 🀄 But the pre Trump 2010s were an entirely different thing! 2010-October 2012 can IMO be considered as much an extension of the 2000s as 2008-2009 were (laissez-faire hedonism, "recession pop" classic forum Nightcore vibe) but November 2012-May 2015 was very not Trump Era nor 2000s

YIMBYLAND The idea that modern society somehow restricts us from living fufilling lives is majorly cope. There's plenty of unique jobs out there, hobbies or things to study, room for love and friendship, and places to have fun. Joy is a choice.
