This is really demoralising to watch.

I’m not sure this parade projects the image some hope it will. Interesting to see Tim Kennedy serving as a face of it; he’s been quite ostracised from various military and veteran communities, which have accused him of embellishing his service.

I’ll admit I’ve got mixed feelings about how we should respond to developments in the US. But this is worth reading. (Those Aussies who’ve spent time in the US system at the strategic level will relate to the cringe at some of our advocacy, and being called out for it).

The quoted Army officials really need to follow through. This isn’t trivial stuff.

The US Army parade was embarrassing for a lot of reasons. But I didn’t expect the volume of armchair warriors pointing at Army Rangers doing lame drill and telling the world with all the confidence of a toddler that this means they don’t have unit cohesion or military capability.

This article will be under-appreciated, as most of these are, generally by people who’ve not invested in learning a language and applying it to foreign affairs analysis. We need to stop judging the value of language learning in narrow or superficial terms. This stuff matters.
