this is…incredibly stupid eu: $235.6bn surplus, $605.8bn exports, 235.6/605.8 = 39% claimed tariffs charged indonesia: $17.9bn surplus, $28.1bn exports, 17.9/28.1 = 64% claimed tariffs charged india: $45.7bn surplus, $87.4bn exports, 45.7/87.4 = 52% claimed tariffs charged

As many have suspected, the formula for “reciprocal tariffs” is hilariously simple: Trade Surplus/Export to U.S. × 100. Here is the chart I created with claimed tariff against US and the calculated tariff using the above formula - look almost funny, if not so damaging.

If you want to see how the Trump administration seems to have made up its tariff rates out of thin air, let's look at Jordan, the first Arab country to sign a free-trade agreement with the US (in 2000). It got whacked with a 20% tariff rate anyway, among the region's highest. 🧵

China paying a lot of attention to Vietnam - tariffs, South China Sea and relations with the US all hot issues. Does Beijing sense an opportunity or is it worried that Trump bullying might shift VN’s strategy?

I'm going on Fox News at 240pm EST for the Charles Payne show to discuss tariffs impact on the US and Asia. Today, the US slapped anti-dumping duties on Southeast Asian solar with varying rates but they are essentially embargos on the import from the region, especially from

To Lam's reforms have caught the eyes of many observers, but equally important is his foreign policy. In my latest piece, I argue that VN under To Lam is no longer just bending like bamboo (he barely uttered the word), but branching out like a banyan.

Fulcrum Commentary by Nguyen Khac Giang - Vietnamese leader To Lam's recent tour of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan was aimed at diversifying Hanoi’s strategic partnerships & securing Moscow’s backing for its military needs & South China Sea claims. fulcrum.sg/the-strategic-…
