youtube.com/watch?v=wUelHN… Why we need to scrap 'one lesson = one learning objective' and break topics down into 10-minute chunks spread over multiple days (spaced repetition / distributed practise)

Really useful. I'm definitely guilty of deviating from the script in response to higher attaining pupils, but agree that this often leads to most children getting lost when done in whole class teaching.

Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract. Why CPA, in that order? Why not APC? A = make sure chn know what to do. P = help chn understand why we do that. C = chn demonstrate their understanding, reinforcing their learning by explaining. No?

The roots of inconsistencies can usually be traced to one or more of the following: • The teachers find it a waste of time. • It’s never been clearly explained and agreed. • It was a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist any more. • The time to impact ratio is off #sltchat

The 'neat books' obsession is especially harmful in Maths. Children are reluctant to use effective problem-solving strategies - such as drawing a bar model or sketching a rough diagram - because they're 'messy'. tes.com/news/why-our-o…

Comprehension strategies in reading (e.g. summarising, self-questioning, etc) are like vitamin supplements: a useful addition to people's reading diet, but only needed in very small doses. The bulk of reading lesson time should be spent actually reading and discussing text.

Passcode to the iPad cupboard is 1066. Assistant head chose that password because if a teacher asks for the passcode in earshot of children, he can say "Battle of Hastings" and the teacher will understand, but the children won't. This is what is wrong with primary schools.
