This doesn't require "creative solutions," like university-sponsored yoga, meditation, or journalling. It's literally just better pay, fewer hours, and removal of abusers.

I wrote about a fatal case of MDR E. coli bacteremia which adapted to evade antibiotic treatment not once, but TWICE in ~1 month. With just a handful of mutations it became resistant to every antibiotic thrown at it.

The 16S rRNA gene is the standard for differentiating between bacterial taxa by DNA sequencing. But what does it mean when one species' sole copy isn’t encoded on the chromosome, but a 9-kb plasmid? Read my story about this evolutionary oddball: medium.com/the-quantastic…

I have been told to stop stealing muffins from the bakery. Unfortunately, it’s the only way to keep my lucrative muffin stand in business. Everyone is fine with this.

Vaccines account for 40% of the decline in infant mortality over the last 50 years. Infant mortality rates have plummeted over the last 50 years. Globally, they’ve fallen by over two-thirds, from around 10% in 1974 to less than 3% today. A recent study — published in The Lancet

Had a blast working with the wonderful Aayushi Uberoi to create this visual abstract. The Uberoi Lab studies the interplay between microbes, hosts, and the environment to study the different pathologies of the skin. #sciencecommunication #science #art #illustration

It was fantastic working with Kevin Blake PhD to bring our lab vision in this illustration. Kevin is scientific editor @wusm_pathology and I always learn so much from him.

The opacity of academic prose arises from the epistemological imperative to operationalize disciplinary jargon, facilitating intra-specialized discourse while obfuscating heterogenous interpretive accessibility and perpetuating a recursive dialectic of erudition and exclusion.

Do carnivorous plants have a "gut" microbiome? I wrote about the symbiotic relationship between the carnivorous sundew plant and a fungus which helps it digest insects. Read it on ASM's Small Things Considered 👉

What your brain's microbiome means for your health? The answer is: Absolutely nothing, as there is none. And no, brain microbiomes play also no role in neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's. This article is not based on scientific information that is credible.
