Maroons owe all Jamaicans an apology for actions in 1865 Bogle & followers were free people not slaves. Maroons had no obligations to 'recapture them' But not only did they help British crush Morant Bay Rebellion They committed some of the worst brutality against fellow blacks

'Nov 13 1865. Governor Edward Eyre held a welcome ceremony & official banquet for 300 Maroons, who marched to drums & fifes from Portland to Kingston. Functions were held to honour & thank them for active & successful part in quelling Rebellion' Hartley Neita. My Story p128

I have lived to see people no longer referring to the windows & doors open dream with derision anymore. Some of those same people don’t even mention it, or crime again. Imagine that.

To be fair to Mark Golding, what he says about the Maroons is pretty much what is widely accepted by most Jamaicans Our 'conventionally accepted history' is often quite at odds with the facts. eg almost nothing is known about Tacky but his name 'African chief' is a fable
