Intermittent mostly upslope-driven (NW wind over mtns) snow showers along/west of Blue Ridge on this Monday. Upper-level low arriving this evening brings best chance of a bit more widespread/heavier snow west of Blue Ridge possibly extending snow briefly eastward deeper into Va.

Still some bands of mostly light snow/flurries drifting SE over western Va, but it appears heavier snow with lift of upper low moved more across western NC. Upslope snow bands continue overnight west of I-77 & mtns near WVa state line.

Blacksburg's 0.4 inch snow on Mon 11/10 was earliest accumulating snow in 13 years, since 0.5 on 10/30/2012. Earlier I posted it was earliest since 1999 but overlooked 2012, related to Superstorm Sandy. It is 9th earliest 0.1+ snow on record for B'burg going back about 80 years.

Wife & I capturing a bit of aurora glow with iPhones between breaks in cloud cover looking north from south of Roanoke. Faintly visible white/light pink to naked eye, not near 5/10/24 or 10/10/24 intensity, at least yet, but worth a look or photo scan if you have open north view.

With more coronal mass ejections on the way from the sun, it's possible there is more visible aurora in Virginia tonight and later this week. A few pics and a quick look back at Tuesday night's third great aurora display in the past 13 months. cardinalnews.org/2025/11/12/sol…

The Bald Mountain fire on the Craig-Botetourt county line is still going this week and has burned about 3,000 acres. Last week's showers didn't put it out. 65% contained as of two days ago as fire crews continue to work it.

Seeing lots of folks ranking last 3 big aurora displays with variable responses. For my eyes, 10/10/24 was best, vivid reds from my driveway, with 5/10/24 2nd, getting to a more open view. Last night was 3rd, but clouds & less desirable NW position to best colors were partly why.
