I've been eagerly awaiting the release of the Pacific Attitudes Survey Vanuatu, from Kerryn Baker & co. The earlier Samoa survey was full of rich insights into Samoans’ views of Australia & other states vying for influence in the Pacific, and the Vanuatu survey is the same 🧵

Nanumaga: Monise Laafai wins re-election/Hamona Holona newly elected. Niutao: Feleti Teo newly elected/Sa’aga Talu Teafa re-elected. Nui: Mackenzie Kiritome wins re-election/Sir Iakoba Taeia Italeli newly elected.

Former PM Enele Sopoaga and Minister of Foreign Affairs Panapasi Nelesone win in Nukufetau, Minister for Education Timi Melei and Minister for Works Ampelosa Tehulu win in Nanumea, and Minister for Finance Seve Paeniu and MP Namoliki Neemia unopposed in Nukulaeae.

PM Natano loses in Funafuti, but former Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon Kofe returned. Both Health Minister Isaia Taape and Transport Minister Nielu Meisake lose in Vaitupu (replaced by former High Commissioner to NZ Paulson Panapa and Maina Talia).

Tuvalu election results out! Only Nanumea, Nukulaelae, and Nukufetau returning both incumbents. One incumbent unseated in Niutao, Nui, Nanumaga, and Funafuti. Both incumbents unseated in Vaitupu.

In a close vote, Senator for Aur Hilda C. Heine wins the Presidency of the Republic of the Marshall Islands #RMI . Dr. Heine previously served as President in 2016 – 2020. She defeated outgoing President David Kabua, as the Nitijela met following November’s national elections.
