Another great garden rewilding moment. Put the trail cam up to see what ate my Pea seed packet, accidentally dropped in the greenhouse. Seems the culprits, a Wood Mouse pair, have started to nest close by, bringing in dried leaves and grasses. Fantastic! I won’t disturb them

Some drone footage I took of the spectacular north coast of the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry. No roads. No people. One of the most beautiful places in Europe

A real treat to watch an adult Long-eared Owl making a prey delivery to the nest at the top of the pine tree this evening. ‘Sqeaking’ call is the owlet, the “whurrr” call is from the adult.

This is the view across the valley from my house today, an overgrazed Kerry upland after heavy rain... All the topsoil and vegetation in an area the size of a football pitch has just slid off the mountain. And yes, for scale, the white dots are sheep #overgrazing

Anthony McGeehan’s new article on Fea’s Petrel and related species/races is an eye opener. Amazing text, driven by fantastic insight, beautiful photos by the author, and an incredible map*. *Conflict of interest declaration... I did the map. tinyurl.com/y699trhf

More Senegal and Gambia avian goodness… some sub-Saharan specialities, Cricket Warbler and Little Grey Woodpecker, and the common but wonderful - Pearl-spotted Owlet and, my punk favourite, the charismatic Western Plantain-eater Mnai Kumar Thakuri and Senegalese bird guide, Abdou Lo

2 of 3. Visited Pemba island for the 4 endemics. Pemba Scop’s Owl, White-eye & Sunbird were easy enough, the Green Pigeon only gave itself up with 2 hours to go. The White-eye got voted the best of them all. Dickinson’s Kestrel & Mangrove Kingfisher also seen @birdquest Tanzania

Some bird highlights from a recent trip to ‘an island’, including Javan Banded Pitta, Javan Black-crowned Babbler, Javan Trogon and Javan Scop’s Owl. Ten bonus points if you can name the island.
