In a contribution to Local Government Studies, Keonhi Son, Sarah Wagner and I find that the number of full day care spots for children in German cities is lower in case of economic hardship. This effect gets stronger if the mayor belongs to a left-wing party shorturl.at/p8YUK 1/3

The results are based on a newly compiled data set that covers information on the annual number of children in full-time day care places in 108 German cities over a time span of 15 years. The data further covers information on the economic and political context of a city. 2/3
