Former Gov. Larry Hogan was an easy winner in the Maryland GOP Senate primary. But he lost nearly 30% to a rightwing pro-Trump gadfly. For Hogan to win in November — and become the 1st Maryland Republican elected to the Senate in 44 years — he’s got to unite his party behind him.

In the one Senate race all but guaranteed to be a GOP pickup — the W.Va. contest being vacated by Joe Manchin (D) — Jim Justice, the term-limited GOP gov., easily beat Alex Mooney in the primary. The last time West Virginia had 2 Republican senators: 1958.
