A1: Yay! Welcome to the best profession! I think the best advice I could give is twofold: 1.)Observe as many teachers as you can and 2.) Get REALLY good at recording yourself teaching, watching the recording, and self-evaluating. #UTedChat

A2: Ooohh...this is hard for me as a secondary teacher. Getting comfortable with Screencastify or a similar screen recording website was invaluable. Kids LOVE to watch videos made by their teachers, and there is good research to back it up: cultofpedagogy.com/screencast-vid… #UTedChat

A4: Explicitly teach Digital Citizenship principles. The technology is there and continues to change at an exponential rate. Rather than teach don'ts, teach dos. iste.org/explore/digita… #utedchat

A4: Teaching them WHY we have boundaries with technology and HOW to use technology as a tool and not a distraction. I think so much of it depends on the culture of learning in the classroom. #UTedChat

A5: I feel like a hypocrite giving advice on this; it has taken me YEARS to learn how to set more healthy boundaries, and yet those boundaries are so important to avoid burnout. There is definitely some ebb and flow, but I generally tried to keep work at work. #UTedChat

A5 (cont): A friend once pointed out that we don't take our laundry to school and do it in front of our students, and yet we do this so often to our family at home with our work. Learning how to unplug and be present can be hard when you have 1,802,309 things to do. #UTedChat

A5 (cont. again!): But learning how to compartmentalize is how you will be able to sustain your dedication to your students and your career. (This is advice to myself too!) #UTedChat

A6: Ditto to everything that has been said already. I would add to work with an instructional coach regularly. I wish I would have had that opportunity when I was first starting. It can be an empowering and stress-relieving experience. #UTedChat
