Happy Teacher’s Appreciation Week to the burned out teachers. Let this serve as a reminder to put yourself first. You don’t have to wait on a school to show appreciation for you. You deserve to take care of your mental health and well-being no matter what others think.

Happy Teacher’s Appreciation Week to the teachers working in a toxic workplace. It’s okay to create an exit plan whether it be transferring to a new school, a new position, or taking a break from teaching. Do what is best for you!

The only way to disrupt the “teacher martyrdom” narrative is by taking charge and refusing to sacrifice yourself. Schedule your appointments, implement morning routines, and create firm boundaries that serve you. Stop waiting on others to appreciate you. APPRECIATE YOURSELF.

Hard truth: When you prioritize yourself others may not get it. It’s important to remember to emphasize the SELF in self-care. It’s for you, not others.

Self-care isn’t a gift for being productive or reaching a goal. Taking care of yourself is your birthright. Once you realize that, you’ll never look back.

If you’re a teacher that’s getting ready to head back into the classroom and you haven’t evaluated your self-care practices then you’re setting yourself up for a difficult year.

Prioritizing yourself in the classroom is a MUST. Waiting on your district and school leaders to truly put teachers first consistently in a meaningful way is not something you can count on.

And yes, I realize that self-care for educators is a bandaid but until policy changes happen, teachers have to do what it takes to make through the school year.

Have you ever thought about why society has normalized using PTO only when you’re sick or have an appointment? Society perpetuates hustle culture at all costs. Ways to disrupt these norms: - Go on vacations - Schedule self-care days - Set and communicate boundaries #useyourPTO

It’s amazing how easy it is to put yourself last. Taking care of yourself shouldn’t be a reward for checking off items on your to-do list. You deserve to prioritize yourself simple because you are.

Holiday boundaries sound like: ✨ “I don’t want to talk about that, you’re making me feel uncomfortable.” ✨ “I can come over but I’ll only be able to stay for an hour.” ✨ “That tradition no longer serves me, I’m doing things differently.” Remember to be gentle with yourself.
