At each blocked off intersection, people speak with Montreal police about the ongoing situation. One resident told me his apartment wasn’t touched by the flames, but police woke him up at 2 a.m. to leave.

Efforts to put out the five-alarm fire are still going strong shortly before noon in downtown Montreal. The fire department says one person was rescued from a balcony. People are advised to avoid the sector. Montreal Gazette
