Surfing has always been a big part of Hawaiian culture. Today, it is a way to keep the history of our ancestors alive, and have a deeper connection to the ocean that surrounds us.

Makana mountain in Hā'ena, on the North Shore of Kaua'i, is where the magic of the 'ōahi ceremony takes place. A ceremony of strength between some of the Hawaiian Kane (men) to see who could cast a burning log far enough to reach the ali'i (high chief) that waits in canoes below.

Wailua Falls is as picturesque as a Hawaii waterfall gets! This waterfall splits in two and is 80 feet of pure beauty. Wailua Falls became famous in Hollywood in the 1970's-1980's hit television show, "Fantasy Island", and has been a must see for visitors ever since.

The Monk Seal is the only seal that is native to Hawaii, as well as one of the only mammals that is endemic to the Hawaiian islands. Make sure to stay at least 10 feet away so you don’t disturb them while they sleep. The Monk Seal is endangered and protected across the islands.

The nēnē goose is Hawaii’s state bird. It is also endemic to the Hawaiian islands. You can find nēnē on the islands of Kaua’i, Maui, and Hawaii (Big Island). You will see signs around the island as you drive to “drive slow” because you will often see them on the side of the road.

The new statue of King Kaumuali’i, in Pa’ula’ula o Hipo, an oceanfront state park in Waimea, on the west side of Kaua’i, honors our heritage-past, present, and future. King Kaumuali’i stands 8 feet tall and reminds us of the love he had for his people.
