2. Having a small part in one of the most viral games of the 2010s in DDLC with my friend Dan. Eternally proud.

The harassment is out of control, tbh, and it usually comes from people unqualified to have opinions about translation. Full stop. The real problems usually fly under the radar because they don’t involve a pet political issue people are scouring the world to be angry about.

I think a lot of Americans are in the anime business for the wrong reasons. Ideally, we should be vessels for other people's expression. We help make a connection.
People who want to 'leave their mark' tend to get into trouble. Nobody wants that. It's not why you're here.

In the lead up to my book's release tomorrow, I'm bumping this thread back up. Can you believe I literally drafted essays on translation and finished a book while fighting the British Museum? Thank you everyone who has supported me on this journey.

A similar problem applies to MTPE (machine translation post-editing) - proofreading MT output is different from translating text yourself - and from proofreading another humans' work. It gets tiring fast and is mind-numbing.

What's appalling to me about this is that they outright said with their chest out 'You can give us $5 for inaccurate translations '

Like at that point? I'd rather cough up the extra cash to get a more accurate TL versus having to read through whatever AI can come up with
