Here we go! Day 1 of my writing residency with the Banff Centre. I’m so honoured to have been invited into this cohort under the mentorship of Annick MacAskill and can’t believe I get to spend the next two weeks finishing a project that’s been brewing for ages. Maybe I’m a poet…?!

Ten years ago, I submitted what I can only imagine was the weakest, most cringeworthy portfolio UBC had ever received. Today, after a decade of workshops, courses, and mentorships, I received an offer of acceptance to do my MFA in Creative Writing. I’m so grateful and so stoked!

Was given a pretty expensive bottle of wine quite a long time ago and I’ve been waiting for a special occasion to drink it. Then I decided that today is special, right? Isn’t it?! Sure. So I opened it and the wine is actually not great. At all. So many morals to this story.

Shared my own fiction at a reading tonight for the very first time and it was so much fun?!?! Like, I might even love it more than poetry?!?!?! Everyone should get the chance to write dumb little stories and read them aloud in a room full of beautiful nerds 🥰

Watching a 2018 UBC School of Creative Writing lecture by Nancy Lee (Nancy Lee) called Writing Through Difficult Times. She reminds us the “antidote to ugliness is the conscious creation of beauty, a connection to collective humanity.” Anyone else need to hear that today? Yesterday? Tomorrow? ❤️

Been a while since I looked for freelance work but I’m on the hunt. So far nobody seems too impressed by my uncanny ability to eyeball leftovers and choose the exact right sized Tupperware container on the very first try but it’s still early days so pls keep your fingers crossed
