"For Singleton, [#BasicIncome] has meant she has lived a year in an Atlanta apartment, after becoming homeless when she couldn’t find a landlord to accept her city housing voucher during the pandemic." Another example of why cash is king. Let's do UBI! theguardian.com/us-news/2023/a…

Today on outreach we met someone who, after 2.5 years, finally got a voucher and a move in grant this January. It expires in October and she is visiting her 18th apartment Tuesday after 17 no's. She said most landlords don't want to deal with the red tape and delays of a voucher.

This study really paved the way for other direct cash transfer programs for people who are unhoused. So very cool to see it published! Cash shortened experiences of homelessness and increased spending on needs like food, transportation, and rent.

Analysis comparing data from 2017 & 2022 found areas with fast rent growth—Sacramento, Fresno, Raleigh, Phoenix, Austin, and Tucson—saw homelessness spike. Places with slow rent growth—Minneapolis, Houston, Philadelphia, and Chicago—saw homelessness drop. pew.org/3LCwv5c

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I feel so lucky to get to work with Denver Basic Income Project. The quant interim report shares early learnings about the potential of #GuaranteedIncome. Looking forward to continuing the analysis and integrating the robust qual and quant research.

I may be tired but I’m so grateful to have made it to both #CSWE2023 and #APPAM2023 this year. I shared findings from two of my dissertation papers and made some great connections with folks studying #GuaranteedIncome.

It's below freezing in many parts of the US. Now, SCOTUS will determine if people who are forced to live outside can use things like blankets, cardboard, or a tarp to survive in the cold. The mere fact of this case existing is a damning indictment on America.

This bill justifies “defensive force” against unhoused people. Feels like a euphemism to call this “criminalizing poverty” anymore.

Too many people who receive HCVs are unable to use them. Direct rental assistance (rental assistance paid to renters, not landlords) should be tested to close that gap.

I get to work with the best people. Check out @InglePilar’s important work on end of life care for people who are unhoused. Also recommend listening to her podcast episode on Elevated Denver Podcast. So much more to come from her.

I am learning so much from the team at AgeFriendlyOH, especially how ageism is associated with housing insecurity and homelessness. Check out the video below about their work to #ButtonUpAgeism!
