We had such an inspiring group of folk attending the Pond Restoration and Science course, over the last couple of days. Looking forward to hearing about all their future pond restoration projects Can’t wait for next years course! #EcologyTraining #Ponds

New pond (top) & restored old #pond (bottom) 10 months on in farmland. 15 wetland plants in restored pond & 0 in new pond. We need both to maximise nature recovery. The advantage of restoring old ponds is that #seedbanks give you plants quickly which helps new ponds to colonise

As we move on to the delivery phase of our @nidderdalenl wetland creation project, we are hoping to obtain drone footage showing some before and after shots. Today we had a test flight and practice run.

Feels great to be moving into the delivery phase of our @nidderdalenl #wetlandcreation project after nearly a year of planning. Three small ponds added to this site, respecting existing boggy areas. They're already full of #cleanwater & we even added some refugia for amphibians.

Recent rain is filling up these new scrape features nicely. Installed as part of @nidderdalenl #wetlandcreation project, this previously homogenous rushy valley bottom has been transformed into a vibrant new habitat

Before and after #wetlandcreation photos. Damp and rocky, this is marginal farmland with limited grazing. We've added a new pond & large area of scrapes that will make this more attractive to birds such as #curlew as well as other wildlife.

We're pleased to be working with RegenFarmCo installing some wetland features along the upper edge of this exciting agro-forestry scheme, helping to manage water flow whilst providing homes for wildlife. Great clay soil - can't wait to see the finished ponds.

After the hugely successful community day last weekend, >7,000 limestone grassland plants have now been planted on repaired areas of Thornborough Middle Henge. Thousands more are being grown-on Nosterfield Nature Reserve habitat nursery. Like these Small Scabious, all grown from local seed.

This beautiful photo taken by our @nidderdalenl #wetlandcreation project officer shows two of three ponds restored on a small nature reserve. They will greatly add to the biodiversity value of this mixed habitat site. Photo (c) Christy Irish.

Two years since my first visit here, and again it has yielded my first spawn sighting of the year, keyed to freshwaterhabitats.org.uk/advice-resourc… We restored this pond last autumn and added two new ponds, so it's great to see the frogs returning and making use of their improved habitat šŸøšŸ™‚

šŸ”Ž Sharing your sightings of frog and toad spawn helps to provide a better understand of when frogs and toads are breeding, but how can you tell the difference? You can add any sightings to our #SpawnSurvey map: freshwaterhabitats.org.uk/advice-resourc… Common Toad spawn photo by Kate Wright
