This is the reality We are going backwards - at least to the Pliocene - and, without an imminent colossal change in our behaviour - we will rewind the clock back 50 million years to the Eocene hothouse

#GasKathi #Korruption youtu.be/Fz5tB4eQpZc

This is unbelievably bad. The warmth of the waters in the Caribbean Sea extends so deep that Melissa could remain stationary for days and still not upwell cooler water — 30°C over a layer extending down to 50 meters or more. This thing will basically have endless ocean fuel.

Finland just switched on the world’s largest sand battery. 🇫🇮⚡️ Built by Polar Night Energy, it stores 100 MWh of heat — enough to power the town of Pornainen for a week — cutting emissions by 70%. Real innovation looks like this, not more oil rigs. newatlas.com/energy/largest…

BREAKING: Hurricane Melissa has been upgraded to a ferocious CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE, with winds of 160 MPH and a pressure of 917 MBAR. She is just over 24 hours away from making landfall in Jamaica. This is only the 2nd time in recorded history that THREE or more Category 5 storms

🌀 💪📈 Category 5 Hurricane Melissa rapidly intensificatied with the power of about 500 TW (terawatt, 500*10¹² joules per second). For comparison, that's 25 times humanity's average global energy use of 20 TW. Earth's Energy Imbalance is about +700 TW 🤯

After a devastating landfall in Jamaica, Major Hurricane #Melissa has emerged north of the island. In a few hours it will strike again, this time in southern Cuba.

2X increase in the most extreme hurrucanes! Yesterday’s post connecting Melissa’s extra intensity to warmer ocean temperatures ruffled some feathers. Some complained that “one storm” doesn’t prove climate change. That’s true. So I dug deeper. Looking at every Cat 4 & 5 in the

Extended hurricane category scale, following Wehner&Kossin, Proceedings of the National Academy 2024: pnas.org/doi/abs/10.107… If that scale didn't stop at Category 5 for historic reasons, we would have had several Category 6 tropical cyclones since year 2000.

Is the world successfully "decarbonizing," as the infamous Gates climate memo implied last week? Well, it turns out the answer depends on how you define 'decarbonization,' and how you measure 'success'... Quick thread🧵

Electrification could now reach 75% of all energy demand, as the road-transport and heating sectors rapidly electrify 🔥🚗 These two sectors account for 50% of global energy use and are now ready to switch from fossil molecules to clean electrons. ember-energy.org/latest-insight…
