Mama #nightjars are FEARLESS. We borrow chicks briefly for measuring, but this whippoorwill mom was NOT having it. She followed us and flew at my face repeatedly to defend her chicks. Sound on! (If you see a nightjar doing this, LEAVE—you might step on the chicks!) #ornithology

This wood thrush fledgling was found yesterday on the ground under a 15-m high nest. Be careful not to step on baby birds when walking through the forest this time of year, and please keep your dog on a leash!
